The Kennedy Center has announced it’s bringing back live theatre with a lineup of Broadway hits including Hadestown, Dear Evan Hansen and Hamilton!
Rejoice fellow theatre lovers it looks like we’re finally going to be able to enjoy live performances at the Kennedy Center once more! On Tuesday, April 14, the Performance Arts center announced its theatre lineup for the upcoming 2021-22 season featuring hit Broadway musicals, acclaimed plays, Kennedy Center productions, special programming for the Center’s 50th Anniversary and more.
The season is set to kick off on Wednesday, October 13, with a performance of Tony-award-winning Hadestown. Broadway fans will be delighted to discover the Kennedy Center’s line up promises a lot more of musical theatre fun with productions of hit shows like Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Jesus Christ Super Star, Mean Girls, Jersey Boys, Dear Evan Hansen, and of course, Hamilton, the production which was set to take DC by storm before the pandemic hit.
The Kennedy Center is yet to release details regarding audience size and other specific measures for live performances, but capacity will certainly be reduced in order to comply with CDC and DC health guidelines.

The anticipation of being able to see Broadway productions again—and be in the theater together—is palpable,” said Jeffrey Finn, Vice President and Executive Producer of Theater at the Kennedy Center. “This upcoming season is filled with incredible shows and works from brilliant artists, offering something for everyone.”
