DC walls are bursting with beautiful works of art, so we’ve put together a list of gorgeous murals you absolutely have to see.
1. St. John’s Church Murals, Downtown DC
The colorful and inspiring murals were painted back in September of 2020 by local artists with the help of the P.A.I.N.T.S Institute and St. John’s Church to help bring light and hope to the downtown landmark, which had been central to the 2020 protests. These reflect on the urgent need for dialogue and racial justice, showcasing the power of art as a form of activism.

2. “Voices for Change – Representation, Progress & Hope,” Mount Vernon Triangle
The commemorative piece, which was installed on January 18 in honor of Martin Luther King Day, celebrates Community, Arts and Education, and also features notable DC figures like Mayor Muriel Bowser and Vice President Kamala Harris among others. “The mural, entitled ‘Voices for Change – Representation, Progress & Hope’, intends to unite and rally all Americans to work toward peaceful, positive change,” explained P.A.I.N.T.S Institute on an Instagram post.

3. “The Beauty of Buzzards Point,” Buzzard Point
In 2019, artists Kaliq Crosby and Rose Jaffe were commissioned to create this stunning mural for Buzzards Point in collaboration with Pepco and Capitol Riverfront. Showcasing some of DC’s most famous legends like Chuck Brown, Frederick Douglass, Eleanor Holmes Norton, Marvin Gaye and Ms. LaBrand, the mural was designed to create a sense of culture, community and feel for this neighborhoods evolution.

4. “Wave,” Georgetown
This mural, which recreates Hokusai’s famous painting “The Great Wave of Kanagawa, was painted almost 46 years ago by architect and artist John McConnell for his friends who owned the house.

5. “Love,” Blagden Alley
This stunningly beautiful mural was painted by artist Lisa Marie Talhammer back in 2017. Talhammer’s cheerfully bright piece celebrates love in all of its forms.

6. Blue Eye Wall, Union Market
Just a very eye-catching mural at the Angelika Pop-Up.

7. “Latinamerican Female Identity,” Union Market
This brightly colored mural by Argentine artist Mariela Arjas was donated to the city by the Inter- Development Bank to commemorate its 60th anniversary.

8. Heart Wall, Union Market
Back in 2015, artist Mr. Brainwash painted this mural in honor of International Women’s Day, now it’s a staple of D.C. street art.

9. The Nats mural, Nationals Park
This patriotically cool mural was painted by street art masters No Kings Collective, the creative duo behind 2014’s Crystal City Wynwood Murals.

10. Culture House DC’s façade, Navy Yard
The entire building is a work of art, inside and out. But we find the façade’s mural particularly pretty, a piece bound to brighten even the rainiest of days.
