Have you ever dreamt of having your own private island? Well, now you can make that dream a reality—and just a short drive from Washington, D.C.!
Tippity Wichity Island, a roughly five-acre island in the Chesapeake Bay only 90 minutes outside of D.C., is listed for sale at $2.1 million by TTR Sotheby’s.
The island has a storied and mysterious past. Its first documented purchase leads back to Captain Henry Howgate following the Civil War in 1879, who built a house and distillery on it (and rumors of a brothel). By the 1950s, it had been purchased by Earnest Dickey, who built a new house and had electricity installed.
Tippity Wichity Island’s most recent owners, the Harmon family, purchased the island in 1978 after stumbling across its classified ad in the Washingtonian in 1977.
The island currently features a three-bedroom home with two full baths, a fully-functioning kitchen, great room, and multiple porches. The property also includes a dock with a boat lift, a soft launch for kayaks and canoes, a garden, a heated swimming pool, and a nature trail.
A 90-minute drive to D.C. and a 10-minute boat ride from St. Mary City, Tippity Wichity Island is the perfect escape year-round.
“Available for the first time in 50 years,” TTR Sotheby’s writes, “Tippity Wichity Island is ready for its next owners to create their own piece of St. Mary’s County history and priceless family memories.”
