The beloved D.C. restaurant Duke’s Grocery has opened its fifth location in Navy Yard.
With Navy Yard marking the restaurant’s first location outside of the Northwest quadrant, the British-style gastropub’s other locations include Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, Woodley Park, and a special spot in the British embassy.
The Dupont location is currently closed for renovations to its 114-year-old building, though it’s aiming to reopen by its 10-year-anniversary.
“A nod to the ubiquitous corner cafés, bodegas, and curry joints of the East London neighborhoods of Shoreditch and Hoxton,” the Duke’s Grocery website reads, “our culinary inspiration is as diverse as these brilliantly working-class parts of the English capital.”
The space itself still reflects the charm of the chain’s British theme, but with quite a few upgrades: more dining space, more seats, more televisions, and a larger bar.
While local favorites like the Proper Burger will remain menu staples at the Navy Yard location, new details that will delight patrons include a modern mule bar that serves mules with a modern twist—just try the mule with jalapeño-infused tequila!
Although reservations are currently limited, Duke’s Grocery welcome’s walk-ins and the bar remains first come, first serve.
Location: Duke’s Grocery, 1201 Half St. SE, Suite 115
