Attendees will need to present proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test for some venues starting Sunday, August 15.
After Major Bowser reported that all government employees will need to be fully vaccinated as of September 19, some entertainment venues in the DC area have announced that they will require attendees to show proof of vaccination, and some venues accept a negative COVID test done 48 hours prior to the show to enter the venue. Proof of vaccination can be a physical vaccine card or a picture of it from a smartphone.
In a tweet, by I.M.P., the independent concert promotion, and production company, announced the news that all its venues, The 9:30 Club, The Anthem, the Merriweather Post Pavillion, and the Lincoln Theater will require proof of vaccination. Previously, I.M.P. allowed concertgoers to have a negative COVID test to enter the venues, but that has been revoked and only full vaccination proofs will need to be shown upon entering.
I.M.P. will issue a refund or a voucher for those who no longer wish to attend their concert. Black Cat in Maryland is following in their footsteps starting Friday, August 13. Songbyrd Music House and Blues Alley in DC will require proof as well starting Monday, August 16.
The Kennedy Center and Ford’s Theater attendees must also demonstrate proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test upon entering, starting September 1. Performers and patrons will be fully vaccinated as well.
Indeed, indoor concert venues are like a virus’s heaven, and with the Delta variant around the corner, as well as the rising cases among young people, this mandate is meant to protect the younger and more vulnerable concert-goers.
