According to Greater Washington Partnership, most DC residents will likely keep working from home until summer 2021.
If you’re working from home, you might want to get comfy on your couch Washingtonians because it seems you won’t be returning to the office until later in 2021.
Greater Washington Partnership recently surveyed 430 businesses in the Washington, Richmond, and Baltimore regions and found out most employers are opting for a slow return to the office. According to the study, employers seem to be taking a slow and phased approach to the reopening and it’s likely most DC residents won’t be back in the office until next year. Although one-third of the workforce is expected to return to physical worksites, 72% of employees will most likely return by summer 2021. A third of the businesses surveyed stated they were still unsure of their summer 2021 plans still.
Businesses will be also implementing physical distancing measures, limiting the number of people in the workplace and making the use of masks compulsory for all employees. The survey also found that only 10% of respondents will require testing to enter a worksite.
The survey also observed the new mode of working will most likely have long term effects on how people commute to their worksites. The region’s transit system will be critical to reopening the Capital Region’s economy safely unsustainably, the report observes, but many of those surveyed stated they don’t expect many of their employees to use public transport any time soon.
