Dine out on 8th, Downtown DC’s huge ‘streatery’ is opening on Friday, September 25!
Get ready to eat ’til you drop Washingtonians! A new outdoor dining room is coming to Downtown DC and it sure looks enticing! Barry Gutin, owner of Cuba Libre on 9th street, and the DowntownDC BID have created a new giant ‘streatery’ where DC patrons will be able to enjoy special dishes and mixed drinks from different DC restaurants. Dine out on 8th, is taking over Penn Quarter’s Eighth Street between H and I streets, Northwest and will be hosting over 300 hungry guests!
With the pandemic, Capital One Arena and the museums being closed and the lack of tourism, Downtown restaurants have been struggling to attract customers and Dine out on 8th seeks to help remediate that. Gutin and the BID’s new concept looks to bring in more visitors to Downtown by creating a common area in which restaurants can serve their patrons. But it won’t be just any outdoor area–no sir.
Unlike regular pandemic outdoor dining, Dine out on 8th, is bringing together several businesses that will set up mobile kitchens, serving stations, and bars to accommodate diners blocks away from the actual restaurants. What looks like will be a challenge for the restaurants will certainly be a major win for hungry Washingtonians who will get to enjoy plenty of new and exciting drinks and dishes!
What scrumptious new concoctions will guests be able to get their hands on once the new streatery opens on Friday? Well, you can look forward to digging into Cuba Libre’s mouthwatering Latin American bites, Mediterranean delights from Olivia and Modena both by renowned chef Ashok Bajaj, and Spanish-Japanese fusion dishes from new restaurant Cranes. The divine comfort food truck, Puddin’, will also be making a pit stop at Dine Out every Saturday throughout October, so patrons can get their fill of hearty chicken ‘n beef sausage gumbo, shrimp ‘n grits, etouffee, red beans ‘n rice and, of course, Puddin’s signature dish Brown Butter Bourbon Bread Puddin’!
