The District is getting a new mural dedicated to National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman!
A new mural honoring Inaugural poet Amanda Gorman has gone up in the District just in time for International Women’s Day! On Sunday, March 7, multiple Washingtonians noticed a bright new mural going up near Dupont Circle.

The work of art shows Gorman on Inauguration Day when she recited a poem for President Joe Biden.
The artist behind the beautiful mural, which is going up on the side of 1608 17th St. NW, is renowned muralist Kaliq Crosby.
“I’m honored to be the artist they chose to record that moment. It represents new energy and accountability,” Crosby told News4.
Crosby has painted several other murals across DC including his collaboration with artist Rose Jaffe, “The Beauty of Buzzards Point” which depicts some of DC’s most famous legends like Chuck Brown, Frederick Douglass, Eleanor Holmes Norton, Marvin Gaye and Ms. LaBrand. He’s also the author of the U Street mural showing the founders of Lee’s Flower And Card Shop, a longtime Black-owned business in the area.
Gorman’s mural is set to be completed this month, but passersby can already take a peek at it while walking through the neighborhood!
