Tie your napkin round your neck and bring out your best pair of cutlery ’cause its Pancake Day once more! we understand you might not want to enjoy your pancakes in batter-covered clothes (or kitchens), so here are 7 DC spots in which to enjoy some fluffy, stack-worthy pancakes!
1.Tupelo Honey, Arlington, VA
Looking for some amazing, Southern-style, sustainable pancakes? Then look no further than Tupelo Honey. This restaurant in Arlington, VA is absolutely committed to creating delicious southern dishes from scratch using only locally sourced ingredients. And you sure won’t go bored with their wide array of pancake options. Tupelo Honey’s scratch-made sweet potato pancakes come in six different flavors–the classic ones with whipped cream and powdered sugar, Mountain blueberry, Pecan Pie, Salted Caramel & Chocolate, Banana Pudding Dream, and last but not least their Shoo Mercy Griddle ones featuring fried chicken, apple cider bacon and two fried eggs. You can also choose to load your pancakes up with an extra side of fried chicken, bacon or two eggs.

2.Ted’s Bulletin, Capitol Hill
Ted’s Bulletin’s All Day Breakfast selection is pretty flipping awesome and don’t get us started on their pancakes. At Ted’s, pancakes are served by the stack with a side of eggs and hash browns. If you’re a classic pancake person, then, by all means, go ahead and get them with your choice of berries or chocolate chips. But we strongly suggest trying their Ted’s Tart Pancakes for $14.95, these are served with crush Ted’s Tarts (think home-made Pop-Tarts but ten times better), fresh strawberries and whipped cream, as well as the usual side of eggs.

3.Florida Ave Grill, Cardozo
The oldest soul food restaurant in the world, Florida Ave Grill has been serving eggcellent pancakes to congressmen and garbagemen alike since the 1940s. Their hotcakes are served by the pair, topped with cinnamon and sugar. But if you’re feeling especially hungry and two pancakes just won’t do, we suggest trying Miss Bertha’s social that comes with two hotcakes, two eggs (any style), bacon (or sausage, or scrapple) apples, and home fries all for $11.95.

4.Fare Well, H Street Corridor
At Fare Well, you can choose to have your pancakes plain and traditional or opt for one of their three specialty flavors–blueberry, carrot cake or banana hazel–for just $11. But if you’re more of a morning person and are especially into breakfast, then you batter try their Early Bird Breakfast. Available Mon-Fri 8 am-11 am their Early Bird special includes two pancakes with scramble and a side of seitan sausage for just $8.

5.Ari’s Diner, Ivy City
If old school pancakes are what you seek, then we suggest heading on over to Ari’s Diner in Ivy City. This retro-style diner serves its pancakes with the traditional maple syrup and butter, selling them by the stack load. If two pancakes just won’t fly with you, order its four-stack with your choice of blueberries, bananas chocolate chips or extra maple syrup for a total of $12.

6.Unconventional Diner, Mount Vernon Square
If you hadn’t guessed from its name already, this Mount Vernon Square restaurant has some of the most eclectic and creative dishes in the District. At $12 the four-stack, their Blueberry pancakes piled high with vanilla mascarpone, lavender and candied ginger make for a totally unconventional yet absolutely delicious brunch!

7. St Anselm, Union Market
Although this traditionally American tavern is devoted to producing perfectly grilled meats, they’re also pretty talented when it comes to pancake making. Their Malted Chocolate Chip Pancakes served with bananas and whipped-cream look straight out of fluffy pancake heaven. But if you’re looking for something a bit different then we suggest trying St. Anselm’s Blintz, these Russian-style pancakes come fully-loaded with farmer’s cheese and berry preserves.

8. The Coupe, Columbia Heights
This Columbia Heights spot known for its big, all-day breakfasts offers a hearty stack of five, fluffy buttermilk pancakes with blueberry or chocolate chip options.
