Embrace Your Inner Bookworm With ‘A Literary Pumpkin Walk’

It’s “A Literary Pumpkin Walk,” Charlie Brown!

If you’re a bookworm and a Halloween enthusiast then we have the perfect activity for you. “A Literary Pumpkin Walk” kicked off in Capitol Hill on Wednesday, Oct. 26!

Sponsored by the Capitol Hill Community Foundation, this annual tradition sees participants (ranging from individual households to entire streets) decorating their front stoops and yards the week before Halloween with “a pumpkin, scarecrow, yard scene, or whatever, based on your choice of book or literary character.”

Participants’ addresses and the book they are portraying are then added to a map on the website, so members of the community can go on their own self-guided walks to see the literary marvels. You are then free to vote for your favorite design online through Halloween.

The people behind the winning design is given the opportunity to choose a public or charter school in Capitol Hill to be bestowed with a $1,000 grant.
