Prepare your tastebuds, Levain’s massive cookies are finally coming to the District!
Cookie lovers, sweet tooths and foodies alike rejoice because a new baking celebrity is coming to town! NYC’s beloved Levain Bakery is planning to open its first store outside of the Big Apple right in the heart of Georgetown. Levain’s new location is set to open Wednesday, September 16, at 3131 M St, NW. The bakery will have a wide variety of baked goods on offer both through counter service and delivery including, you guessed it, its famous giant cookies.
Levain first opened in the Upper West Side back in 1995 as a bread-focused bakery, but soon it became known by its giant, ooey-gooey cookies. And judging by the looks of them there’s no doubt as to why. These giant roundels are crispy on the outside and perfectly soft and gooey on the inside– just heavenly!
At Levain’s new bake shop in Georgetown, you’ll find a wide range of cookie flavors including the classic chocolate-walnut, dark chocolate-peanut butter chip, and oatmeal raisin, as well as a nut-free, double chocolate chip one and a gluten-free chocolate-walnut one. The best part? You can also get them with milk (both traditional and non-dairy) and if you head over to Levain in the morning there’ll also be coffee and cold brew.
For those with a sweet tooth, there’s plenty of other incredible options available including fresh blueberry muffins, chocolate chip banana bread, bomboloncini doughnuts, and sweet or savory brioche buns. The bakery will also serve its full range of baguettes, boules and other breads.
Owners Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald are also collaborating with local celebrity baker, Paola Velez (Maydan, Compass Rose), on a limited-edition cookie. Velez’ chocolate chunk cookie is inspired on her Dominican grandmother’s café con leche and will contain hints of espresso and cinnamon. Yum!
Don’t know about you but we’ve already added Levain to our favorite sweet spots to try out in Georgetown and we can’t wait to try these ooey-gooey, giant bites of heaven. September cannot come soon enough!
