The Hokkaido-based chain is finally bringing its Ramen to DC at Tyson Corner’s Boro.
If you’re a ramen fan like us and you always enjoy a steamy bowl of fresh noodles with creamy tonkotsu broth, then you got to try out Santouka’s ramen! In the last 33 years, the renowned Japanese chain has been luring in throngs of people all over the world–Santouka has locations in various places including Taipei, Vancouver and Boston–with its scrumptious bowls of ramens. And now, luckily for us, they’ve just opened their first, brand new store of the Mid Atlantic, right here in DC! Santouka is opening its Tyson Corner’s Boro store on Wednesday, August 12, and it’s got tons of mouth-watering options available for dine-in, delivery and pick-up.
First, there are their world-famous bowls of Ramen. At Santouka, ramen’s built with extra wavy noodles, standard toppings like butter-soft pork belly, ear mushrooms, scallions and an uber-creamy tonkotsu broth made by simmering pork bones for 20 hours. The secret? These are made following the ramen shop’s original recipes and techniques by Santouka’s chefs who have been specially trained in their Japanese restaurants. Patrons can choose from a wide range of options all the way from shouyu (soy sauce) and miso to spicy chilli. For an extra cost, you can also add in extra pork, butter, sweet corn and, our particular favorite, soft-boiled aji-tama eggs. Yum!
Santouka also offers a vegetarian option made with a vegan soy-based broth.
Aside from their amazing bowls of ramen, Santouka offers rice bowls topped with grilled salmon and roe or braised pork belly with simmering stock, as well as some awesome appetizers including steamy gyozas and takoyaki-fried octopus balls drizzled with takoyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, topped with bonito flakes.
The ramen shop is now open every day from 11 am until 6 pm and has made only 30 seats available indoors in keeping with Virginia social-distancing guidelines. Additional seating is also available outside.
