The Mayor’s Office on Asian & Pacific Islander Affairs is hosting Washington, D.C.’s 8th annual Diwali celebration on Thursday, Oct. 20.
“Join @dcmoapia for their 8th Annual Diwali Celebration! The Festival of Lights, honors the triumph of light over dark and good over evil,” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser tweeted Thursday.
Though the celebration itself is five days long, this year, Diwali is being observed on Oct. 24. However, in honor of the Festival of Lights, D.C.’s early Diwali celebration will feature a number of traditional customs, such as a lamp lighting ceremony, live performances, and a traditional food tasting. Although the event is free, it does require that attendees RSVP online prior.
The Diwali celebration is being held at the National Housing Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.
