Try your hand at pumpkin shooting with Rock Hill Orchard’s world champion pumpkin cannon!
Roaming through a pumpkin patch to find the perfect gourd sure is fun, but have you ever considered trying pumpkin chucking with a cannon? Well, let us introduce you to Hormone Blaster, Rock Hill Orchard’s award-winning “punkin chunkin” machine!
Rock Hill Orchard’s pumpkin chucking machine, uses compressed air to chuck pumpkins into a nearing field where the farm’s cows will usually hang out looking for a pumpkin snack or two (no cows are harmed during target practice with the cannon as they’re kept in a separate field, but just in case, make sure to yell “Fire in the Hole!” before shooting).
Hormone Blaster ain’t just your average pumpkin cannon–no siree. The pumpkin chucking machine has won several competitions in the past and has established world records for the Adult Female division in both 2010 and 2013, boasting the title of 2010’s world champion! For pumpkin shooting, the farm uses cannonball-sized pumpkins that you can pick out on their patch with the aid of a special ring which will help you find the perfect gourd. So how far can these cannon shoot its pumpkins you ask? Well, its world-record 2013 shoot chucked a pumpkin 4,382.96 feet across the field!
In addition to its loads of pumpkin shooting, this Mt. Airy farm offers tons of other fun-filled fall activities, including a field of 3,000 apple trees where you can get your pick of the season, a 14-acre corn maze and a cow-to-cone creamery where you can get velvety smooth ice cream!
Rock Hill Orchard is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12 pm until 5 pm and pumpkin chucking is available most weekends.
