If you’re looking to indulge and imbibe at some of the best bars, Washingtonians don’t need to go far! Two beloved D.C. bars were named in the list of North America’s 50 Best Bars.
Sponsored by Perrier, this is the second year since the list’s launch. The list is compiled by first examining and then voting on the “best bar experiences” in each region by an anonymous Academy of 260 “gender-balanced” industry experts, such as bar owners, bartenders, cocktail connoisseurs, and drink media professionals.
Service Bar, located on the lively U Street, ranked No. 33 on the list, noted for its delicious cocktails (try the Italian Bubble Coat!), equally appetizing food, and casual atmosphere! “Since 2016, thirsty patrons have made Service Bar their go-to local in The District for three great reasons: the famous fried chicken, the lively, unpretentious ambience and outstanding cocktails delivered at reasonable prices,” it noted.
Coming in at No. 45 is Downtown D.C.’s Allegory. Hidden at one of D.C.’s most avant-garde hotels this speakeasy is accessed through a bookshelf in Eaton’s Radical Library. Tell the bartenders at Allegory what your favorite flavors are and they’ll craft you the cocktail of your dreams. Combine that with its stunning art, including civil rights activist Ruby Bridges depicted as the Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” character, and you won’t want to leave.
The list was created to “celebrate the best of the region’s drinks industry and shine a much-deserved spotlight on North America as a first-class cocktail destination,” according to North America’s 50 Best Bars.
