Washington, D.C., has been named one of the “World’s Best Cities” for 2023 by international consultant group Resonance’s annual ranking!
D.C. ranked 17th out of 100 cities worldwide, making one of only five U.S. cities named in the top 20. Not too shabby (though it will always rank No. 1 in our hearts)!
“The ubiquity of D.C. in dramas on screens small and large, combined with the shocking events of recent years, means we’re all thinking about Washington,” wrote Resonance. “Want proof? It topped all cities for the number of references on Google in the past year. Given its omni-presence, there are few cities so poised to build on its exposure.”
To create its rankings, Resonance only chooses cities with populations over 1 million and analyzes them across six categories: place, product, programming, people, prosperity, and promotion. In D.C., its highlighted rankings include coming in at 13th for prosperity and 8th for promotion.
According to Resonance, a flurry of openings in 2022 (such as the AC Hotel Washington DC Capitol Hill Navy Yard and the Pendry DC – The Wharf) and upcoming openings in 2023, including phase two of the Southwest Waterfront, are responsible for D.C.’s growing presence.
“Investment continues in the city with $10.3 billion in development, 29 hotels in the pipeline, eight of which are opening this year, and the near completion of phase two of the Wharf,” Elliott Ferguson, president and CEO of Destination DC, said of the developments.
Meanwhile, Market 7—a stunning food hall that highlights Black-owned businesses—is lauded as a D.C. gem promoting community and pursuing equity in the city.
With all said, 2023 is already shaping up to be a promising year for Washingtonians!
