Medium Rare has been delivering meals to those over 70 and under coronavirus quarantine.
The threat of coronavirus has been hard on all of us, some more than others. Those over 70 for whom coronavirus poses a bigger threat than the rest of the population, have been forced to go into quarantine and self-separation, making everyday tasks like grocery shopping an almost impossible one. Mark Bucher, owner of Medium Rare, is well aware of this situation and has set out to deliver meals to the elderly who cannot leave their homes.
On Mar 12 Buch tweeted out that if anyone over 70 was in need of a meal, Medium Rare would make sure to help them out.
If anyone knows of anyone over 70 in the DMV that is quarantined , at home and needs a meal tonight , please DM me .. we will make sure they get dinner .

The restaurant delivered meals to neighbors’ doorsteps without any close contact and keeping in mind all the necessary health conducts. On that night Medium Rare delivered nearly 30 contactless meals featuring their traditional mixed green salad and award-winning steak frites.
Medium Rare announced once again the following day they would continue delivering meals to anyone who needed them in the DC, MD and VA metro areas:
Please DM us folks over 70 who are quarantined or self separating and need a meal tonight in the DC/ MD / VA metro area . We will start delivering at 5pm . DMs received after 4 will be accommodated tmrw .

Their decision to help out the elderly local community has been met with an overwhelming response from the public who retweeted their posts more than 8,000 times in total and commended them for their decision to help out in their community.
That’s very thoughtful. We are all in this together!
I have a few family and friends self separating and I’m now the shopper for them.

Some even hailed them as heroes wearing their capes backwards!
An apron is just a cape worn backwards!

Other Members of the DC, MD and VA communities have also reached out to the restaurant offering to help with what they can. Some have offered themselves to deliver meals or even offered to deliver fresh produce to their restaurants if they were needed, while others contacted the restaurant asking to make donations or picking up the tab for those free meals.
For now, it seems, they seem to have things under control. “It’s something that we wanted to do and at the current level, it’s something that we could handle,” Bucher told the Washingtonian. “Should it expand beyond our financial ability, we’ll reach out.”
At a time when confusion and uncertainty seem to be the norm, its uplifting to hear news of members from the DC community who are working hard to make things a little bit better for those around them.
