The curfew will go into effect at 6 p.m. this evening.
Mayor Bowser has issued a citywide curfew for Wednesday, January 6. The announcement came shortly after the protests that erupted around Capitol Hill earlier on Wednesday while Congress debated the presidential vote count.

The curfew will take effect on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. and will remain in place until Thursday, January 7, at 6 a.m.
“During the hours of the curfew, no person, other than persons designated by the Mayor, shall walk, bike, run, loiter, stand, or motor by car or other mode of transport upon any street, alley, park, or other public place within the District,” the mayor’s office said in a statement.
Bowser also stated that public, COVID-19 testing sites would remain closed for the evening and that if anyone should be ” experiencing symptoms” you should “stay home, isolate, and call your doctor.”
The curfew order, however, does not apply to essential workers and members of the media who are working or traveling to or from work.
In a later public safety briefing, city officials stated anyone caught breaking curfew would be held accountable and would be arrested. Mayor Bowser asked everyone to “clear the Capitol area” and retreat back to their homes and their home states.
