The Washington Monument will have to close to the public once more due to COVID-19.
Earlier in October, the Washington Monument reopened to the public after six months of closure. Now, it is closing again due to coronavirus once more.
On Thursday, December 17, the NPS announced the Washington Monument would be closing its visitor center once more due to a reduction in its workforce resulting from potential COVID-19 exposure.
The reopening date is yet to be determined, but an NPS representative told WTOP News that “the reopening would be dependent on health metrics remaining above a certain threshold.”
“NPS is working to staff the Washington Monument at the appropriate levels to maintain the safety of its operations for visitors and employees,” they stated.
