Local celebrity, chef José Andrés, stood up for his community once again and helped feed first responders after the attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Chef José Andrés and the team of World Central Kitchen worked until the wee hours of the morning following the Capitol riots to help feed the hundreds of National Guard members currently deployed in Washington DC.
The chef and his daughter set out of their Bethesda home late last night after curfew to help feed the first responders deployed throughout the capital. The duo headed to a local Domino’s and picked up 120 pizzas to deliver to National Guard and Metropolitan police in Downtown DC.

“I don’t know what to do right now… so we just started cooking,” said the chef in a later tweet about World Central Kitchen’s emergency deployment.
“I know it’s a lot of controversies and everything, but we feed anybody and everybody,” the chef said in the Twitter video.”We activate when there is need and tonight the police is maintaining my beautiful Washington DC safe.”
Andrés and his team turned Jaleo into a WC Kitchen outpost and began preparing hundreds of hot stews, fried egg sandwiches with fruit to deliver to all Maryland, Virginia and DC first responders stationed throughout the District.
Fast forward to 1 a.m. and José Andrés himself was still behind the stove rolling out fried egg sandwiches, making pasta and potatoes for those first responders working through the night.

Chef José Andrés is no stranger to lending out a helping hand during times of crisis. With his foundation World Central Kitchen, the famous chef has previously helped feed those affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and those affected by Cyclone Idai in Mozambique. More recently in March, the famous chef and local hero turned many of his DC establishments into communal kitchens to help feed those in need during the harshest times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The chef’s night ended around 2 a.m. when he shared a video outside the National Archive.
