The sunny California boardwalks, clear Miami beaches, and Big Apple all have one thing in common- they were outranked by Washington D.C. as one of the top travel destinations for summer 2023. The Virginia and Maryland metro areas and D.C. ranked as the number 3 “best travel destination for summer” in America. Just coming behind Honolulu, Hawaii at number 2 and Atlanta at number 1.
WalletHub, a leading financial servicer that regularly analyzes cities with the best and worst bang for your buck, conducted a research experiment on America’s best travel destinations. They studied 41 key indicators across a variety of major sectors related to travel including- cost, travel hassles, attractions, weather, activities, and safety.
WalletHub refined its data so microscopically that it compared the cost of a two-person lunch across each city. And it looks like D.C. is the third best place to find a somewhat affordable lunch while later discovering boundless entertainment. From our new Japanese food hall to the plethora of museums that we probably take for granted, D.C. is a pretty spectacular travel destination.
It ranked fairly well across travel hassles, attractions, weather, and safety. Local costs ranked high for D.C., tugging the score slightly down to 64.07 overall-just points behind the leaders.
