The Atlantis opened in D.C. on Tuesday, May 30 and the inaugural show will be headlined by Foo Fighters.
Spearheaded by venue owner I.M.P. Concerts, The Atlantis has been reconstructed to reflect the original 9:30 Club, (view-obstructing pole somehow included!) prior to its 1996 move to its current location at 815 V Street.
“Walk in and prepare to turn the clock back to the original 9:30 Club, sans the gargantuan rats and notorious stench, but with a nod to the infamous pole,” I.M.P. said in a press release.
The Foo Fighters’ performance marks a full-circle ending, as frontman Dave Grohl announced the plans to build The Atlantis during a 2021 Foo Fighters show at 9:30 Club.
At the opening Tuesday morning, a to-scale mixed-media sculpture of Grohl was unveiled. The sculpture will being will have a permanently housed at other D.C. music venue, The Anthem.
To commemorate 9:30 Club’s 44-year anniversary, The Atlantis will be hosting 44 shows from the end of May through the end of September for only $44 per ticket. The 44-show lineup is composed of a wide-range of artists from 9:30 Club’s “history, its present, and the future.”
The website reads, “On May 30 1980, the original 9:30 club opened. Before that, the venue was called…THE ATLANTIS.”
