A stunning new mural celebrating Vice President Kamala Harris has gone up at The Wharf and it’s entirely made out of crochet.
Another stunning mural has gone up in the District to celebrate International Women’s Day. Created by muralist, London Kaye, The Wharf’s new mural celebrating Vice President Kamala Harris is entirely made out of crochet!
The colorful 40-foot mural was assembled earlier on Monday, May 8, and features a large-scale portrait of Vice President Harris. Also on the mural, appears Harris’ famous phrase “I’m Speaking,” which she directed at Vice President Mike Pence when he attempted to cut her speaking time short during their electoral debate.
Kaye’s piece is composed of over 150 squares crocheted by volunteers from across the country and the world, that the artist stitched together with hers in celebration of the country’s first Madam Vice President.
An LA-based street artist, Kaye is renowned for her whimsical crochet creations that have brighten up the streets of Brooklyn and NYC since her days as a student in NYU’s Tisch School of Art.
The artist first started working on the project earlier in February when she announced on social media she was working on a project of “epic proportions” to celebrate Harris and that she was looking for volunteers to help out with the new work of art.
The mural was installed early on Monday morning to celebrate International Women’s Day and will remain at The Wharf for everyone to check out until Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, so make sure to check it out before it disappears!
