Rolling to Remember is advocating the veteran suicide crisis and those lost in action by riding through DC in a 50,000 motorist motorcade this Memorial Day weekend!
Rolling to Remember is an event created by American Veterans (AMVETS), “the nation’s most inclusive Congressionally-chartered veterans service organization, representing the interests of 20 million veterans” according to their website. Their mission is to improve the safety and quality of life of those who have served their country as well as assisting their families and communities. They strive to enhance the entitlement of all the honorable American Veterans by advocacy service and leadership.
Annually, on Memorial Day, when the country observes a day to remember the men and women who have passed away serving the United States, AMVETS motorcade through DC to bring awareness to missing in action Americans and the veteran suicide crisis.
This year on Sunday, May 30th, approximately 50,000 motorists will be circling the National Mall to support this cause. The route will go as follows:
- The motorcade will begin at the RFK Stadium.
- They will take Southeast Blvd through Barney Circle.
- Make their way to 395 West and exit on Main Ave SW.
- They will merge left on Independence Ave towards the Lincoln Memorial.
- From there they will take a right onto Constitution Ave towards the Capitol.
- Then they will take a right turn on 3rd Street SW, then take another right to Independence Ave.
- Finally, they will exit on 14th Street.
Because of the pandemic, there will be no formal ceremony on the National Mall after the demonstration. For a more detailed itinerary, visit their website.
On Memorial Day, Monday, May 31st, honoring wreath-laying ceremonies will take place at various memorials:
- World War II Memorial,
- Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arlington National Cemetery,
- Vietnam Veterans Memorial,
- National Moment of Remembrance.
