Metrobar isn’t just a regular themed bar, it endeavors to create a stronger community and open people’s minds.
Metrobar’s menu is composed of drinks with funny DC-centric names like Last Stop, Green Line Gimlet, or Red Line Rickey. A real DC metro car is installed to truly express this bar is metro-themed especially for all Washingtonians. Art installations like the railcar and murals are set up throughout the venue, creating an original and youthful place to hang out. A stage and screens are set up for the many events the bar hosts. The Metrobar is primarily outdoor so you can sip on a cold drink, enjoy the weather, art, and ponder the message this bar wishes to promote.
Indeed, there is more to this bar than the unique theme. The space is utilized to create “an intersectional space to connect people across cultural groups, and to provoke conversation about where the District has been, where it is now, and where it’s going” according to their website. Indeed, the creators of this bar strive to bring awareness to various cultures, educate people who visit through social programming and collaborations. The bar’s partners include DMV Black Restaurant Week, Trap Bob World, a talented Black artist from DC, Community Forklift, and many other interesting, passionate, diverse businesses. They host many events to bring the community together such as movie nights, workout classes, game nights, and so much more.
Metrobar wishes to bring together the District’s eight wards that are distinct based on history, architecture, demographics, and geography, to one uniform location where differences are celebrated. Having all this diversity, whether between neighborhoods or between people, is what makes DC so special, allowing us to have a “provoking conversation about where the District has been, where it is now, and where it’s going.” Metrobar is striving to gather Washingtonians together, over a drink, to have pertinent discussions, and to create a lively community of friends.
