It’s no secret that President Biden has a penchant for Thanksgiving leftover sandwiches, especially those of Capriotti’s!
As you’ve probably noticed already there’s been no shortage of Thanksgiving-inspired subs going around the Capital this past few days. That’s because the sandwich is said to be President Biden’s favorite one.
President Biden is especially fond of the one made by Capriotti’s, a sandwich shop based out in Wilmington, Delaware. The “Bobbie,” as it’s called in Capriotti, is essentially Thanksgiving in a sub and has turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and mayo.
During his days as VP, Biden visited the shop during its grand opening in DC back in 2013 and said Capriotti’s Bobbie was the best sub he’d ever had. So naturally now, the Thanksgiving sandwich is making a comeback in the District.
Unfortunately, Capriotti’s DC closed in 2018, but the sandwich shop has plenty of locations around the DC metro area if you want to try the real deal. The closest shop is in Rosslyn, VA, just a mere 15 minutes from Downtown DC. But they also have locations in Maryland in Annapolis, Chester and Easton.
But if you don’t feel like venturing outside the metro area there are a couple of other shops you can check out to try the famous presidential sub. Capitol Hill’s Fight Club recently brought back its “Biden’s Bobbie” for Inauguration Day and so did VA’s Bayou Bakery, which put its own spin on the famous sandwich with roasted turkey, a Cajun cornbread stuffing, and cranberry vinaigrette.
Now, these were on for a limited time only but they’re likely to make a comeback just in time for Turkey Day and other important presidential dates. If you’re craving a Bobbie sometime other than Thanksgiving, you can also check out Jetties, the sub shop chain offers its own version of the Thanksgiving-leftover sandwich, the “Nobadeer,” made with roasted turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and mayo. Plus, the shop has three locations in the metro area including one in Bethesda, one in Fox Hall and one in Chevy Chase.
If you’re interested in trying the real deal, however, Capriotti’s in Rosslyn is open Monday to Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The shop is also open for takeout and delivery.
