Mulled wine, fondue and ski chalets, this is how Stable DC is braving the winter season!
We might not be able to travel to Europe this year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still get a taste of its magical winter season. Stable, DC’s very own Swiss restaurant is finally reopening to the public on Thursday, November 12, and its brand new “ski chalets” have us dreaming of a cozy, gourmet trip to the sprawling Swiss mountainside.
To keep patrons warm and socially distant this winter season, Stable owners have transformed their rear dining room into a small winter wonderland of totally adorable ski chalets. These small wooden cabins are the perfect way to keep Stable’s guests safe and distant in an authentic and original Swiss way that has us all excited for the holiday season. Two of the chalets can sit up to six guests while the other three can fit up to four, but all of them have been decked out with festive decorations!
The chalets boast open entries spaced over six feet apart. Each one will be sanitized after each seating and guests will be required to wear masks at all times when they are not eating or drinking inside the chalet.
While wrapped in red and green you’ll be able to enjoy a slew of mouthwatering Swiss specialties including venison with spaetzle, veal Zurich style with potato rösti, champignons and a cream sauce, and of course the traditional Swiss fondue and Raclette.
Drinks include Swiss wines, Schnapps and seasonal hot cocktails like mulled wine, spiked apple cider and orange punch that will transport you straight to the snowy Alps faster than you can say “gluehwein.”
If you rather sit outside you can also enjoy Stable’s full menu in its extended outdoor patio with heaters, blankets, and plenty of glühwein and fondue cheese.
And you can also take home all the goodies you want from their front Swiss market. Here you’ll find wine, bottled cocktails, and homemade cordials along with some incredible Swiss bread and pastries. The restaurant is still offering its full take-out-menu which includes fondue and raclette kits with the option of renting all the necessary equipment for a truly alpine at-home experience.
