Open fires, huts, turkey legs and mead-galore, Hook Hall’s new winter patio is totally badass!
Valhalla on Earth exists and it’s right on Georgia Ave, except you might know it as Hook Hall. This giant bar in Park View is going all out to keep you warm this pandemic-winter season and what better way to do that than by channeling your inner Norseman? — Or woman, they were pretty badass too.
Hook Hall has transformed its outdoor space into a full-on Viking village featuring all kinds of awesome props like fire pits, helmets, weapons and cozy-yet-fierce pelts to keep you warm while dining out in the cold. While at Hook Hall’s village you can choose to spend your evening in Valhalla in different ways.
You can to camp out in the fields of Fólkvangr by booking your own fire pit. These can accommodate up to six guests and come fully equipped with long benches, stumps, clean blankets and give you access to Viking Village’s wide range of hot winter cocktails that’ll keep you warm all winter long.
But if you’re looking to go all out and feast in Valhalla like a victorious warrior you can also choose to rent your very own Viking hut. Each one can sit up to six guests and comes with a complimentary bottle of champagne lounge seating, a table so you can get your grubs on dishes worthy of Odin himself and you can also choose to “close” the doors so you can keep the cold and Thor’s thunder out. All huts come with bottle service, a special prefixed menu and beverage pairing option.
So what do the gods have in store for dinner? Well, for starters there’s plenty of mead and hot cocktails to go around. There are over 25 kinds of beer for you to choose from, wine, craft cocktails like “The Odin” with Jim Beam Black Bourbon and Amaretto and of course hot spiked beverages like Irish coffee and mulled wine. These also come in three sizes of specialty drinking vessels that one can take home including a wooden tankard, a viking mug, and a drinking horn with a decorative stand.
Food options include a wide array of Viking-inspired treats such as the “Loki Fries” with cheese curds, gravy and shaved beef and, of course, a hearty smoked turkey leg with a cranberry-pepper glaze and served with roasted potatoes. Hook Hall’s winter menu is also available and includes gargantuan pretzels, home-made pizzas and more!
Hook Hall’s Viking Village is opens at 3 p.m. on weekdays, 11 a.m. on weekends and is open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations are highly encoouraged and can be made online on Hook Hall’s website although their village does accept walk-ins.
