Bring lawn chairs, a blanket, and popcorn to the Library of Congress, it’s movie night!
For the fourth year, the annual Summer Movies on the Lawn film festival is back! Every Thursday evening from July 8 to August 5, a movie will be projected outside on the Library of Congress lawn, located right in front of the Jefferson Building, at 10 First Street, SE. A giant screen will be displayed so that everyone has a great view!
No tickets or reservations need to be acquired in advance, but there is a capacity limit, so first arrived are going to be first served. Attendees can start to gather on the lawn as of 6:30 p.m. Each group will be designated to a socially distanced pod that’s six feet from other groups. According to the Libray of Congress, vaccinated guests do not have the wear a mask during these events, but they recommend wearing a mask when socially distancing is impossible.
On view this year are iconic movies from the Library’s National Film Registry:
- July 8: The Princess Bride
- July 15: Shrek
- July 22: Toy Story
- July 29: The Sound of Music (audience sing-along)
- Aug. 5: Jurassic Park
Don’t forget your movie snacks, a comfy chair, and maybe some bug spray, enjoy the movie under the stars!
