The National Gallery of Art has announced it will be closing temporarily starting Saturday, November 21.
As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the District, yet another museum is closing its doors to the public once more. The National Gallery announced on Thursday, November 19, it would be closing temporarily starting Saturday, November 21.
“Out of an abundance of caution and in response to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the region and across the nation, the National Gallery of Art will temporarily close its doors to the public beginning on Saturday, November 21. This affects both the West Building and the Sculpture Garden,” reads the news release.
The gallery is yet to announce a new opening date and stated it would be continually evaluating the situation and will notify the public as soon as they can reopen safely.
Also on Thursday, the Smithsonian Institution announced it would be closing all seven museums it had reopened during the summer along with the National Zoo starting on Monday, November 23. The reopening date hasn’t been announced yet.
