Learn about local history while playing with some lovely fluff balls at Old Town’s first Cat Café & Wine Bar!
Attention cat lovers! The DMC’s second cat café has just opened in Old Town Alexandria and its history-themed. Mount Purrnon Cat Café & Wine Bar, which opened its doors on Saturday, August 1, is the purrfect destination for cat and history lovers alike to grab a cup of coffee, unwind with its unbelievably cute cats and maybe even find your new feline roommate, who knows?
The new cat café gives the customers the chance to relax, unwind and enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine–beer and wine are not yet available, but owners are waiting for their liquor license to be approved–and a bite while playing with one of their 15 adorable cats. Since it’s located in historical Old Town, the café also offers reference guides, maps, and books for visitors to learn more about early US history and the surrounding area.
The café provides an environment for the cats to roam around freely. “It’s a place where the cats run around, and you can come in and play with them and socialize with them and hang out with them,” said Adam Patterson, co-owner of Mount Purrnon, to WTOP news.
All cats were rescued by Fancy Cats and Dogs Rescue Team and are up for adoption, so if you happen to find one (or more!) of their feline tenants particularly adorable you can choose to take them home with you. And if you want to learn more about them, you can check out their adoption profile on Mount Purrnon’s site!
Mount Purrnon Cat Café & Wine Bar is open Wednesday through Monday from 11 am until 8 pm and has special safety guidelines in place including the obligatory use of masks. Visits cost $20.50 per hour for adults and $10.50 for children. Owners encourage guests to book their visit in advance, which can be done via Mount Purrnon’s website.
