The city lit up in gold and purple to honor 100 years of women’s right to vote.
What a stunning sight! This week marks 100 years of the approval of the 19th Amendment which finally granted American women the right to vote. A major victory for the Suffragist movement, the amendment was approved on August 26, 1920, and despite the odd times we’re living in, the city did not forget to celebrate. DC landmarks all the way from the White House to the National Air and Space Museum lit up in gold and purple in honor of 100 years of women’s vote. Take a look!
Under the banner “Forward into the Light” DC landmarks lit up in gold and purple in honor of the 19th amendment centennial, including the White House…
the Library of Congress…
the US Capitol and the National Archives!
The Smithsonian Institution didn’t want to miss out on the celebration either and lit up several of its buildings
Including the National Museum of African American History and Culture…
The Hirshhorn…
and the Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building
The DAR headquarters also lit up their beautiful building in gold and purple…
and so did the National Gallery and Kennedy Center.
Absolutely stunning!
Other cities across the country also lit up their buildings in the suffragists’ colors, including Vega’s T-Mobile Arena…
And NYC’s Empire State building!
Did you catch the gorgeous light show that took the District by storm last night?
