The celebrations included colorful birthday hats and a rainbow cake!
Ever since the National Zoo closed its doors earlier in March due to the ongoing pandemic, it has been doing its best to keep us updated on the latest adventures of its furry inhabitants. This week it was a very special celebration. With many of their birthdays coming up, the National Zoo decided to throw a totally adorable birthday bash for all its ring-tailed and black-and-white-ruffed lemurs!
The celebration included colorful birthday hats, birthday garlands and a lot of monkeying around! The lemurs also got a totally awesome frozen rainbow “cake” made with their favorite fruit and veg including, including frozen apple and cranberry juices, strawberries, grapes, kiwi, applesauce, corn, peas and kale as well as a powdered sweet potato “icing” and some fresh raspberries for décor.
Besides providing updates on lemur birthday bashes, the National Zoo is also offering a wide variety of online educational resources and other activities to teach the young ones about the animal kingdom on their Facebook and Twitter pages. Some of these activities include lessons on mammals and birds, videos on “Zoo jobs” and other wildlife careers and a virtual tour of the Smithsonian National Zoo. For more info you can visit the zoo’s educational resources page, here.
They also have four different animal live cams to help you keep up with their furry inhabitants and their latest adventures, all day every day! Our favorite one is the Panda one, those dopey giant balls of fur sure know how to cheer one’s day up!
