They must have a huge budget for all these stars!
The trailer for Wes Anderson’s newest film The French Dispatch dropped today with a long list of big names you would never think to see side-by-side. The number of stars is almost too long to write in one article but we’ll try: Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Tilda Swinton, Saoirse Ronan, Léa Seydoux, Frances McDormand, Timothée Chalamet, Elisabeth Moss, Kate Winslet, Lyna Khoudri, Jeffrey Wright, Mathieu Amalric, Stephen Park, Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, William Dafoe, Anjelica Huston, and more if you can believe it.
The film takes place in a fictional French town and revolves around the publishing office of a fictional American newspaper “The French Dispatch.” The newspaper’s editor Arthur Howitzer Jr. (Bill Murray) leads a team of top-notch journalists to write weekly reports on subjects like world politics, art, and human interest stories. Three of these stories– an artist in lockup, two young revolutionaries, and a kidnapping– make up most of the plot.
The film’s newspaper is actually inspired by The New Yorker and many of its editors are loosely based on famous writers like Joseph Mitchel, James Baldwin, and A.J. Liebling. Anderson’s newest film is described on IMBD as “a love letter to journalists,” something we greatly appreciate here at Secret Chicago. The French Dispatch hits theatres July 24.
